Maurizio Z. Albala, MD is a board-certified
anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician
in Appleton, Wisconsin, with expertise in
interventional pain management, regenerative
medicine, and musculoskeletal care.

Dr. Albala specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of spine pain, neuropathic pain, and other chronic pain conditions. His clinical expertise includes interventional pain management, image-guided spine procedures, neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulation), ketamine therapy, ultrasound-guided diagnostics and injections, and regenerative medicine treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and other biologic therapies.

He treats a wide range of conditions including lumbar spondylosis, radiculopathy, facet joint pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, peripheral nerve pain, and musculoskeletal injuries. Dr. Albala’s approach emphasizes accurate diagnosis, minimally invasive treatments, functional restoration, and personalized care tailored to each patient’s goals.

Dr. Albala brings a unique international perspective to his practice. He served as a senior attending physician in Italy, with experience in anesthesiology, intensive care, and cancer pain management. He completed a fellowship in orthopedic medicine in Paris, and subsequently pursued advanced training in the United States, including a pain medicine fellowship at Tufts Medical Center, an adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, and an anesthesiology residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
